Committee Hearing for the Protect The Dream Act

I presented HB 305 or the Protect the Dream Act to the Governmental Affairs committee.  The Republican led committee chose not to vote on this bill.  This was a big first step toward addressing the growing problem of corporate investment in housing — and increasing affordability so every family has a fair chance to buy or rent a home in their community.

Homes belong in the hands of people, not Wall Street corporations, and I will keep pushing for common sense measures that shift more power into the hands of everyday Georgians.

March 6th was Crossover Day  — the last day a bill can pass out of the House to the Senate or vice versa. We wrapped up around 11pm.

Recognizing Richard B. Sagers

It was my privilege to recognize Mr. Richard B. Sagers at the Capitol.  Mr. Sagers served our nation in the United States Army’s 11th Airborne Division, but is best known for being the first Black over-the-road truck driver, breaking through the racial barriers that once kept Black drivers from long-haul trucking jobs.

The day marked the 32th anniversary of Mr. Sagers' passing and it was a joy to honor his life and legacy with the Sagers family!
